Joey Weissman Gets Immediate Revenge with PokerGO Cup Win

If a Joey Weissman versus Mike Moncek finale sounds familiar so it should! The pair went back-to-back heads-up in the PokerGO Cup and this time Weissman took the trophy.

There was no repeat of the record-breaking entry of event #1 but the 118 entries did produce an incredible and unusual finale. Before we get to that, there was a day one full of surprises en route to the 17 paid spots.

Daniel Negreanu, Dan Smith and 2024 PGT champion Jeremy Ausmus all fell by the wayside, but fellow poker legend Erik Seidel was doing much better, busting the bubble in spectacular fashion…

Yi Klassen: A♦ 10♥

Erik Seidel: A♠ A♣

Eshaan Bhalla: A♥ K♥

Klassen shoved from the hijack and Seidel only called from the cutoff, but Balla put him all-in from the button…

Flop: 9♣ 4♥ 4♦

Turn: K♠

River: 10♠

… and that would mean a triple-up for Seidel and a bubble bustout for Klassen.

Both Kristen Foxen and Patrick Leonard showed up again in the paid spots but had departed by the dawn of day two. The final table sported Mike “Texas Mike” Moncek looking for back-to-back wins.

Anthony Hu fell almost immediately to Andrew “Lucky Chewy” Lichtenberger and pocket kings, but what followed was three hours of cagey play and shortstack double-ups.

When the domino effect began, it was “Lucky Chewy” who was toppled first, followed by Sam Laskowitz after a fun (for the fans!) sweat…

Laskowitz: A♥ Q♥

Lichtenberger: A♠ K♣

Flop: Q♠ 7♠ 3♠

Turn: 5♣

River: 5♠

Andrew Moreno took the first of the 5-figure payouts when his fishhooks failed to hold-up against Seidel’s AQo, but Seidel gave it back almost immediately running big slick into Weissman’s pocket rockets. A dominated jack was enough to send Seidel out in 3rd next hand.

That left Moncek and Weissman heads-up for the second event in a row, but this time fortune would favour the Florida pro…
