Poker player Tony G has revealed that his net worth now exceeds $300 million in an impromptu interview in the rich man’s paradise of Dubai.
The poker legend was approached by the presenter of the School of Hard Knocks YouTube channel as he exited his Rolls-Royce. As is usual, the presenter asks the obviously rich person a series of quickfire questions about how they made their wealth.
Tony G was more than happy to engage with the young man and revealed quite a bit that isn’t commonly known in the poker community.
Tony G Tells Us Where His Money Came From
Right off the bat, the interviewer asks Tony G what he does for a living to be able to afford a Rolls-Royce. The reply was that he runs a blockchain company.
Now, we know that he has fingers in many different pies, but Sol Strategies, of which he is chairman, is a huge project.
A cursory check reveals that he owns 34.55% of the company, which has a market capitalization of US$522.54 million.
That’s $180 million of value to start with!
Looking surprised, the interviewer wants to know how long Tony G has run a business for, to which we learn that he has done so since he was a kid, but Sol Strategies only for five years.
So how much was the most he earned in a year since he started that project five years ago? The answer was a whopping $100 million.
Asked whether that was for himself or the business, Tony replied that it was all for himself.
Now, this raises a question. Where did that money come from? We don’t get to hear it on the video, but we do know that poker room CoinPoker was sold to Clickout Media last year.
Did Tony G’s share of that sale earn him $100 million? Maybe, but we can’t know for sure.
Tony G Gives Financial Advice on How to Make Your Dream Life
The conversation moved onto what advice Tony could give to budding entrepreneurs. In true poker style, he said you have to “go all in on your idea.”
But when you do finally make real money, you must be diversified.
He says you also need to have a “never give up” attitude while making your first $100 million. Sounds ambitious, to say the least, but who are we to judge?
He added that if everyone wants to leave, then you go to your office and work overnight. It’s as simple as that.
Moving back towards poker, we hear how Tony was active in the tech scene during the dot-com bubble. Although he did go broke, he also learned a lot of important lessons.
It was those lessons that led to the creation of PokerNews, later making him a small fortune when he sold his shares.
“Money will always come to you if you have what it takes.”
The interview ends with a chat about what is the best investment we can make today. He might be a little biased, but Tony says we should all be buying Sol because the Solana blockchain is the cheapest and fastest crypto to use.
He adds it’s also the most scalable and has the best team.
The interviewer says that “people will take you to places that money can’t,” leading Tony to end with a statement about how it’s all about people and talent. If you can get them to work with you and build a bigger thing, then that’s success.
