The unique competition kicked off on December 1st with players facing a format that included a 100bb buy-in, auto-reload, no ante, and… zero rake!

To keep the action flowing, they also had to play at least one of the special tables with the “Tony G Rule” – every winning hand is automatically shown regardless of street or size to spice up the action!

At stake was not only a huge chunk of cash to be won (or lost!) but the title of Best Cash Game Player in the world and a stunning $50,000 engraved Rolex Daytona Ghost watch.

Swiss online poker crusher Linus “LLinusLL0ve” Loeliger was  among the pre-tournament favourites, along with Dejan “DKaladjurdjevic” Kaladjurdjevic and Kevin Paque.

The latter pulled off some notable bluffs among his record-setting 72,251 hands played during the challenge.

The Montenegro pro led with a $1.6k bet into $6.2k and faced a shove from Paque. His laydown was met by a reveal of Paque’s king-high bluff, far from the only one from the Dutch pro.

Fans of the format were treated to regular streams and updates courtesy of CoinPoker and a host of guest commentators.

By the midway stage of the CGWC, “Pr0digy” – the young English highstakes cash game pro, Owen Messere – held a sizeable lead over his nearest rivals.

But with just a week to go, he lost his lead after an unusual losing session, combined with second-placed “riggedeck” having a super session – a $100k swing!

With the lead only $500 at one point, it was day 33 before Messere retook the lead, eventually surging to victory over the last three days as “riggedeck” ran into a badly-timed downswing. The final tally saw the Englishman win by a country mile…
