The full schedule for the 56th annual WSOP will not be announced until early next year, but we already know that the bucket list $10,000 buy-in Main Event will kick-off on July 2nd, with the final table pencilled in for July 15-16, inside the Horseshoe Events Center.
Last year, the crown of World Champion was placed on the head of Jonathan Tamayo, who topped a field of 10,112 to land the most prestigious gold bracelet of all, along with $10,000,000.
The overall player total for 2024, across 99 bracelet events, was a staggering 229,553 entrants with more than $438million in prize money awarded. Both player and prizemoney numbers were all-time records for the series, which dates back to the inaugural event in 1970.
In with the old, in with the new
Today’s press release from the WSOP reveals that, “Fan favorites, including the Mystery Millions, Millionaire Maker, and the Senior’s Championship, are set to return to the schedule along with some new, exciting tournament formats.”
It’s the fourth consecutive year that the “richest, most prestigious and longest-running poker series” will play out at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, since moving from the Rio in 2022.
Ty Stewart, Chief Executive Officer of WSOP, stated: “Each year allows us to refine further and improve the WSOP offering, and 2025 will be no exception. Expect the biggest poker events on the planet, the best action and the most intense competition as we once again welcome tens of thousands of poker enthusiasts eager to experience the magic of the WSOP.”
Jack Effel, Senior Vice President of Poker Operations and World Series of Poker at Caesars Entertainment added: “As the calendar flips to 2025, we’re looking forward to inviting the global poker community back to the iconic Las Vegas Strip for the 56th annual World Series of Poker.”
Effel continued: “Building on last year’s triumphs and familiar faces winning WSOP bracelets, we are excited to see who will expand their legacy or become a new legend by passing poker’s ultimate test in the game’s most iconic arena.”
GGPoker and the WSOP
GGPoker’s parent company, NSUS Group Inc. bought the intellectual property rights for the World Series of Poker brand from Caesars Entertainment in a $500million deal last year.
That brought the world’s biggest online poker room and the world’s premier live festival together. The deal gave Caesars hosting rights to the live festival for 20 years while GGPoker would have excusive online rights to the WSOP brand.
That plan culminated in incredible events such as the currently-running GGPoker WSOP Paradise festival in the Bahamas, with a $5million GTD freeroll and $50million GTD Super Main Event among the highlights.
Next summer’s live WSOP in Vegas promises to be a record-breaking event. For players looking to qualify online for the biggest live show of all, WSOP satellites outside of the U.S. will be held exclusively on GGPoker, beginning in January, so watch this space for more details!
