Eric Wasserson is the latest champion to be crowned at the WSOP Paradise after winning his first bracelet in the $25,000 Dealers Choice Championship.
The event saw 49 entries, composed of the very best mixed games players poker has to offer today.
The American ultimately led an all-USA top five to seize the win and a $353,340 prize to go alongside his bracelet.
Speaking to the media after bagging the victory, Wasserson said:
“It is a monkey off of my back for sure. I’ve been trying to win a bracelet for a long time. It feels really good to finally get it done. I can’t even explain the feeling.
“We all have a good rapport and have played tons of hands with each other over the years. We can make fun of each other and needle so it creates a more fun environment than a normal final table.
“You just have to focus on each hand as a new situation. I try to focus on each spot and make good decisions every time. It’s important to keep a good mentality because it’s never going to be easy.”
Action Recap
Four players were all that remained as Day 3 kicked off. Everyone had a short stack and seemingly was in perpetual danger of being knocked out.
But it was incredible to observe how elite players can maneuver a handful of chips for round after round without being sent to the rail.
Daniel Zack was the first player to dust off his stack. The game was No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw and Zack was down to his last three big blinds.
He jammed a nine-high and was called by Mike Gorodinsky who showed a jack-high. Zack ended up with a queen and his day was over.
The podium finishers now all had equal stacks but after a while Gorodinsky started to fall back from his rivals.
Josh Arieh opened and Gorodinsky came over the top with A♦ Q♥ 6♦ 2♥ in a hand over PLO. Arieh flipped over 10♠ 10♥ 7♦ :7c and the board was dealt out.
The J♦ 8♣ 7♥ flop saw Arieh pick up bottom set and it was all over with the 8♠ turn.
Wasserson started the heads-up match with a good lead and extended it further over the opening rounds.
Arieh was now running short of chips but a timely double up evened the stacks.
The same pattern repeated when Arieh selected NL Hold’em. He was at risk but a second double-up once again stopped Wasserson in his tracks.
The final hand was also NL Hold’em. Arieh limped A♦ Q♠ and Wasserson jammed his Q♣ J♦ which was duly called.
The board ran out K♦ 3♠ 2♦ which left the advantage in Arieh’s hands, but the J♣ turn was enough to give Wasserson the win after a blank 2♠ river ended the event.
