Leonard Maue Takes Down EPT €50K Super High Roller Second Chance After Chop with Nick Petrangelo

Leonard Maue has bagged the EPT €50,000 Super High Roller Second Chance title and a prize of €383,129 following a deal with Nick Petrangelo.

The pair were the last two players standing in the 26-entry field event which still built an impressive prize pool of €1,261,260 to fight over.

Although the number of entries was low, the event still attracted a good helping of big names to give the fans plenty to watch.

The structure was nice and slow which gave the players plenty of opportunity to fight properly with deep stacks rather than a Sit & Go type crapshoot. In fact, the tournament still needed a second day for the final six to come back.

It was Nick Petrangelo who collected the €405,131 lion’s share of the prize pool because of the deal, but Maue nicked the title and Spade Trophy after coming out in front in a flip on the final hand to bag a worthy €383,129.

This victory is Maue’s third at the EPT after victories in a €25K high-roller and a €2,000 hyper turbo back in 2022.

Action Recap

As Day 2 kicked off, Petrangelo and Jesse Lonis were in the pound seats, but the former got hit hard almost doubling up Jean-Noel Thorel.

Stacks were now becoming shallow, leaving the field playing much faster and more aggressive from what we saw on Day 1.

Finnish poker legend Patrik Antonius took full advantage, seeing off two of his rivals, Nacho Barbero and Jules Dickerson, to race into the chip lead.

Then Petrangelo did the same, knocking out Thomas Santerne and Mikael Thuritz to recoup some of his earlier losses.

Lonis had no such luck after losing a big pot against Morten Klein in the blinds and then ending up being the bubble boy after clashing with ace-jack versus ace-queen against Petrangelo.

Steve O’Dwyer was the first of the prize winners to leave the stage, in fifth place, just as Maue was making moves to regain the chip lead.

But that also didn’t go to script because no sooner was Maue in the lead, he doubled up both Antonius and Petrangelo to leave everyone unsure of who was really the favourite here.

It definitely wasn’t Norway’s Morten Klein who lost out after an all-in flip against Antonius to leave only three in the hunt.

And then the Finn followed him out after his ace-jack couldn’t beat the king-queen of Petrangelo.

No sooner had Antonius left the table, Petrangelo and Maue began a discussion about a deal. The pair agreed to just ICM chop the prize money and then run an all-in flip over a single hand to decide who would go home with the trophy.

Maue picked a good looking 7♣ 6♣ while Petrangelo had to make do with the ugly 9♥ 3♥

The board ran out 8♥ A♦ 7♥ 8♣ 3♦ to leave Maue as the official winner of the tournament.
