WSOP 2024 Day 18 – $50K NL High Roller Attracts All-Star Field

Yesterday’s action at the WSOP 2024 saw two new champions crowned and legends Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey returning for the $50K NL High Roller.

Antonio Galiana joined the roster of new bracelet winners after taking down Event #34: $2,500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em.

And at the end of the day’s action, Phillip Hui found himself alongside the select group of four-time champions after winning Event #35: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E..

$800 NL Deepstack Jammed with Big Names

Most of us wouldn’t expect an $800 tournament at the World Series of Poker to see many big names, but somehow Event #36: $800 8-Handed No-Limit Hold’em DeepStack has pulled off that trick.

Plenty of high rollers signed up to join the fray, possibly attracted by the comparatively weak field and deep stacks offering more opportunity to outplay their rivals.

259 players returned for Day 2 which saw the number reduced down to the final 9 with high-stakes pro Timur Margolin currently leading the way.

A $342,551 prize awaits for the winner.

$3,087,600 Prize Pool in $10K Five-Card Omaha

Five-card Omaha is one of the more exciting games we see at the WSOP. Heart-breaking variance and non-stop action from shuffling up and dealing until the final hand.

In Event #37: $10,000 Big O Championship we see the usual suspects in the $10K field with 332 entries building a nice prize pool of $3,087,600.

Mike Matusow, Matt Glantz, Justin Saliba, and David Williams all made Day 2 but were out before play ended with 19 players still to return today.

Day 3 promises to be tough with plenty of star names in good form. Calvin Anderson sits in the lead with Dylan Weisman in third place. France’s David Benyamine is in seventh place

Ryan Sullivan Leads the Way in Monster Stack

Event #38: $1,500 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold’em attracted an impressive 3,139 entries to build a prize pool of $4,190,565.

But that’s with two more Day 1 starting flights still to come.

737 players remain in the event with 2015 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe McKeehen going along nicely.

Allen Cunningham, a recognisable face from the boom years, is also still in the action.

American Ryan Sullivan is leading the way but there’s still a long way to go in this one.

Ivey and Negreanu Going Well in $50K NL High Roller

The big events are coming along now and yesterday was time for Event #39: $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em (8-Handed) to get started.

These events don’t see the massive fields of the other tournaments but they showcase the top talent that the game has to offer.

The late registration period has yet to end but so far we have seen 134 entries and a prize pool of $6,398,500.

68 players are currently battling, including Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Ike Haxton, Adrian Mateos, and Viktor Blom. Justin Bonomo is hanging on by a thread.

Old School Razz Attracts Star Names

If ever there was a game that we can call old school, it has to be razz. Seven card stud but the lowest hand wins.

With the new generation firmly in place it’s fairly surprising to see 547 entries in Event #40: $1,500 Razz.

Of course, there are plenty of well-known players bumping up the entry list, Shaun Deeb and Scott Seiver among them.

Andrew Kerstine currently leads an all-American top eight.
