Azamat Lamkov “did a Moneymaker” this week, turning a $125 satellite into a seven-figure score – the Russian taking down the $5300 Mediterranean Poker Party Main Event for $1,000,000.
There were 1260 entries to the flagship MPP biggie at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel, in Kyrenia, North Cyprus, boosting the prizepool to a staggering $6,048,000.
It took Lamkov two stabs at the satellite route before he got a stack moving in the ME.
First up, he won a travel package from a $125 GGPoker sattie and then followed up his early exit on that bullet by having another go via a live satellite at the Merit itself – this time making it count in an unimaginable way.
En route, there were many notables in and out of the money, Tobias Peters and Alex Keating among several WSOP bracelet winners who cashed, while EPT and WPT double winner Andrey Pateychuk hit the headlines for his disgusting bustout hand…
By the time the final nine started play on day four, there were a quartet of Russians still in the mix – top and bottom of the chip counts – with Germany’s Leon Sturm lurking ominously behind the chip leader.
The early action saw plenty of big swings and KOs, Chen falling to overnight chip leader Shcherbakov and then Leon Sturm storming into the lead by disposing of Tleuzhanov, Gabdullin and Niste.
Larsen’s exit in 5th spot was a painful one, defending his big blind with a shove against a button squeeze only to receive the bad news…

Lamkov’s $1million scoop came with some bonuses, his Merit Poker sattie win also winning him an entry into the Main Event at Dolce Vita Series in July in a last-longer competition.
