Punnat Punsri scoops the $2,010,000 top prize & 2nd Triton Poker

Thailand’s Punnat Punsri scooped the $2,010,000 top prize and his second Triton Poker title by taking down the $50k NLH event #8 in Jeju, South Korea today. In the process, he passed the magical mark of $10million in Triton cashes.

Punnat Punsri Wins $50k NLH Event #8

Punsri was one of 190 entries to the SHR series $50k event, with the likes of Phil Ivey, Steve O’Dwyer, Dan Smith, and Stephen Chidwick all in the stacked field.

They were all chasing the 31 paid spots and a chunk of the $9,500,000 prize pool, but for two players, the cash was forgotten in what was a bizarre moment of money-bubble madness.

Both Punsri and Denmark’s Henrik Hecklen were well clear of the danger zonein fact, among the chip leaders, but a rush of blood saw them both all-in and basically at risk of busting…

For Hecklen, it was a painful and expensive exit, the min. cash which he could have easily folded into sitting at $84,000.

Speaking of painful exits, Phil Ivey would be rueing his luck, despite picking up $339,000 for a 7th spot finish. Ivey, looking to bag a 6th Triton title, was hit hard by Punsri, the latter rivering a flush that the US legend couldn’t get away from despite a lengthy river tank.

Next up, Michael Soyza took everything bar one chip from Ivey, and then Sergio Aido bust his aces to send Ivey to the rail. With $3million in cashes from his last three Triton stops, including two wins, Ivey can’t feel too bad about life right now.

The two Michaels, Soyza and Watson, fell, with Ren Lin sandwiched between them in 5th spot, leaving Punsri, Aido and Brian Kim to fight out the podium placings – and a not-insignificant $4.3million.

Kim had to settle for 3rd spot and $954,000 after running into a red-hot Punnat’s pocket rockets, and just to show the cards didn’t matter, Punsri then cracked Aido’s aces heads-up to scoop the title, trophy and $2million-plus-change top prize.
