5Dimes Founder Found Dead
43-year old Creighton, who founded 5Dimes sportsbook in Costa Rica in 1999, had been missing since September last year. His disappearance was thought to be a kidnapping, more than a dozen people arrested in connection with a reported $1million crypto-currency ransom.
This week ESPN aired a statement from the United States State Department, reading: “We can confirm Costa Rican authorities identified the remains of a United States citizen in Costa Rica.
It continued: “We offer our sincerest condolences to the family (of William Sean Creighton) on their loss. We are closely monitoring authorities’ investigations into the cause of death.”
The timeline of 5Dimes Tony’s tragic story:
September 2018
- Creighton’s Porsche Cayenne Turbo is found crashed into a wall
- Local media report that it was forced off the road by ‘two gunmen in a BMW and two more on motorcycles’
- Later official reports allege that two traffic police were involved
- His Costa Rican wife reports him missing and ransom demands are apparently made asking for $950,800 in cryptocurrency (this figure varies between $500k and $5million)
October 2018
- Creighton’s body is reportedly found, the news stories later refuted by police
November 2019
- The three ring leaders of the alleged kidnap plot are arrested in Spain, having fled from Costa Rica via Panama, El Salvador then Cuba
- Nine more suspects are arrested at various locations in Costa Rica
January 2019
- Costa Rica’sJudiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) release a statement
- They name Jorduan Morales Vega as ringleader, his wife, mother and grandmother all suspected of involvement
- They also claim documents linking the suspects to the kidnapping were found ‘including details of the three e-wallets where the ransom money was transferred’
- Police state that is still a kidnap case, not murder, as no body has been found
April 2019
- Vega, his wife, and mother are all extradited from Spain to stand trial in Costa Rica.
- Police search a house believed to belong to Morales Vega’s grandmother
September 2019
- The body of William Sean Creighton, aka 5DimesTony, is found in an unnamed grave in a cemetery in Quepos, a town some three hours from where he was abducted.
- Further charges and possible arrests are expected now that investigators have Creighton’s body.
Unconfirmed media reports claim that Creighton was suffocated to death soon after his kidnap, perhaps due to him recognizing one or more of his captors.
Made two screenshots from an article on #5DimesTony that mentions why they might’ve killed him, even though coin was collected. Sad. @paulyhoward @MitchMossRadio @VSiNLive pic.twitter.com/IjNEajuovd
