Set to run from May 31st to July 2oth, there will be no vaccination mandate at the 2022 WSOP and masks will not be required.
Of course, the biggest change of all is that the Rio is no longer the venue for poker’s greatest annual festival. After 17 years, the WSOP is moving to the Las Vegas Strip, with Bally’s (soon to become the Horseshoe) and Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino playing host to the seven-week long series.
“This year is particularly historic for the WSOP with its move to the heart of the Las Vegas Strip and debut in the best facilities we’ve ever had,” said Ty Stewart, the WSOP’s Executive Director.
He added: “We’re ready to welcome players from all over the world to our housewarming party at Bally’s, soon-to-be Horseshoe, and Paris. The schedule is jam-packed with first-class events and we expect this to be the biggest and most anticipated WSOP yet.”
As usual, the Series kicks off with the Casino Employee’s tournament, but there are some new and very noteworthy additions to the schedule for 2022.
2022 WSOP Highlight Events:
$1,000 Buy-In Million Dollar Bounty
This exciting new event was originally planned for the 2020 WSOP, but the coronavirus pandemic put paid to those plans. The premise is that if you survive day one, you get a bounty for each player you KO along the way, with an extra surprise bounty to sweeten the pot.
The top bounty is what will make this one of the most sought-after events on the schedule – a $1million prize!
$100,000 High Roller Bounty No-Limit Hold’em
The (Super) High Roller crew will get their very own head-hunting event, with a $25k bounty per player and one -re-entry allowed in the three-day tournament.
It’s event 2 on the schedule and also the second biggest buy-in of the series, only the $250k NLHE Super High Roller having a bigger buy-in. Winning it, or firing a couple of unsuccessful bullets, could set the tone for the rest of the series for the SHR players.
$1,000 Buy-In Flip and Go Presented by GGPoker
There will be 14 online bracelet events as part of the series, but this popular online poker format will be transformed into a live event for 2022 on June 12th.
Every player is all-in preflop, being dealt 3 cards and selecting two of them. One player will win the table and immediately make the money, after which the tournament will play out as normal.
$10,000 Main Event
The World Championship of poker is the event every player dreams of winning, the ultimate poker bucket list tournament. The 2022 version will kick off on Sunday July 3rd and play through to as two-day final table, on Wednesday July 15th and Thursday July 16th.
Germany’s Koray Aldemir topped a 6,650-entry field last year to pick up the game’s ultimate crown and will be looking to become only the fifth player ever to go back-to-back after Johnny Moss, Stu Ungar, Johnny Chan, and Doyle Brunson
$1,000,000 Tournament of Champions
Back for 2022, the WSOP will culminate in the Tournament of Champions, a $1,000,000 freeroll open to the 88 bracelet winners and those who won gold rings in the WSOP Circuit 2021/22 season.
It’s sure to be a battle for the “ultimate bragging rights” and previous winners include Mike Matusow, Mike sexton and Annie Duke.
It should be noted that there is no vaccination mandate this time around and masks will not be required.
