$20,000,000 GTD at the First-Ever Super High Roller Bowl Online Series at partypoker

The Super High Roller Bowl  is the latest major poker event to move online during the COVID-19 outbreak. Starting on May 23rd there will be a 28 tournament series held on partypoker with the Super High Roller Bowl as its crowning glory.

With the lockdown continuing, tournament organisers are doing all they can to bring their events to the online world.

This is obviously a shame for the US player pool who are excluded from all of the biggest sites which are candidates for any major festival.

But the show must go on, as they say.

The Poker Central series moving to partypoker will have an incredible $20 million guaranteed over the ten days. $3 million of that alone will be for the $100,000 buy-in Super High Roller Ball – an 8-max NL hold’em event.

All 27 tournaments running up to the main event will accrue leaderboard points with the eventual winner collecting a free buy-in. Ten of those events will also have the final table broadcast with commentary on the PokerGO platform.

The shifting of the Super High Roller Ball to online is following suit of the prestigious Poker Masters that ran during March, and was a roaring success.

R. McCabe, Chief Business Officer of Poker Central said,

“After a successful Poker Masters Online tournament, we knew we had to continue the momentum with an online Super High Roller Bowl series in lieu of a live tournament this year,”

“Our partnership with partypoker will allow us to continue to deliver what our fans love – live poker from the best players in the world.”

Previous editions of the Super High Roller Ball saw a $250,000 to half a million dollar buy-in. The impression is that partypoker are trying to crush the attendance numbers by attracting a wider group of players.

What about the World Series of Poker?

Could partypoker be driving the possibility of holding many more prestigious events like this online?

partypoker Managing Director Tom Waters said,

“In this time of increased caution, partypoker’s goal is to help fans and players in the poker industry continue to partake in the excitement of the game,”

There are certainly plenty of poker players ready for action in the current situation. Is it beyond the realms of possibility that some World Series of Poker events could be held online.

The sticking point is, of course, the US player pool. Even though records could be broken with a rest of the world player pool excluding the Americans, it might just be a tad unpalatable to suggest it.

North Americans make up the vast majority of the entrants in Vegas every summer. It’s difficult to see that even money hungry businessmen who back the WSOP would dare to suggest such a move.

Something that might at least get them thinking is the absolute crushing of the guarantees for the Poker Masters Online.

Originally showing $16.5 million for the 30 events, eventually $35.4 million was stacked up in the prize pools.
